How to convert a PDF to PDF/A
PDF/A is a PDF that will still open the same way in fifty years. It carries everything it needs inside itself and nothing that could change or run.
- Drop the PDF on the box at the top.
- Choose Keep the words, or Pages as pictures.
- Press Make it PDF/A.
- Read any warning, then press Save the PDF/A file.
Fonts are the hard part
PDF/A needs every font inside the file. A PDF that only names a font and leaves it out cannot be fixed by paperwork, and a browser has no way to find the missing font. This tool tells you which fonts are missing. Pages as pictures always passes, but the words can no longer be searched.

- Will a checker accept it?
- When no fonts are missing, it is built to. If an office uses a strict checker, Pages as pictures is the safe choice.
