How to fill in a PDF form
Forms are full of the things you would least like to hand to a stranger: your address, your date of birth, your bank details. Here the form is filled in inside your browser, so they stay on your computer.
- Drop the PDF form here.
- Click a box on the page and type. Tick boxes and choices work with a click.
- If you want, tick Lock the answers in, so nobody can change them.
- Press Save the filled PDF.
What if there are no boxes
Some forms only look like forms: the lines and boxes are part of the picture, and there is nothing to type into. The tool tells you when that is the case. Edit PDF can still put text anywhere on such a page.
Locking the answers in
A saved form stays a form, so you or anybody else can change the answers later. Tick Lock the answers in and they are painted onto the page instead, the same as Flatten PDF does. Keep an unlocked copy if you may need to change them.
Good to know
- Will the answers show in other readers?
- Yes. They are written into the form itself, which Acrobat, Preview, Chrome and phone readers all show.
- Can I sign the form here?
- Signature boxes are left as they are. Save the filled form, then open it in Sign PDF to add your signature.
- What about letters outside English, like Arabic or Chinese?
- They are saved into the form, and good readers draw them with their own fonts. They cannot be locked in, because the standard form font does not have them.
- Is anything uploaded?
- No. The form is filled in and saved inside your browser.
