How to pull pages out of a PDF

This is the way round people usually ask for it. Somebody needs pages four to nine of a contract, or the one page of a bank statement that shows the payment, and everything else in the file is beside the point. Deleting the rest would get you to the same place, but it is not how the job is thought about.

1. Drop the PDF on the box at the top.
2. Wait for the small pictures of the pages to appear, then click the ones you want to keep.
3. Or type them instead: 2, 5-9 takes page two and pages five to nine. Clicking and typing both end up in the same place, so you can type a range and then untick one page of it.
4. Press Save the pages. They come out as one new PDF, in page order.

What comes out, and what is left behind

The new file holds the pages you chose, drawn exactly as they were. Nothing is redrawn as a picture and nothing is flattened, so the text in them is still text you can search and copy.

What does not come across is anything that belonged to the document rather than to a page: bookmarks pointing at pages you did not take, and links from a page you kept to a page you did not. A link with nothing on the other end of it is worse than no link, so it is dropped.

The pages come out in page order, not in the order you ticked them. If you need them in a different order, take them out first and then use Organize PDF to move them about.

Extract or split?

Extract when you want one new file holding some of the pages. Split when you want the document broken up into several files at once: every page its own file, or a file for every ten pages. Same reading of the document, two different piles at the end.
